Bachelor of Dental Technology program received full programmatic accreditation from October 2024 to December 2027

The dental technology department aims to graduate professional dental technologists who can assist the dentist in providing optimal dental treatment while also restoring smiling function. Patient expectations have skyrocketed with the advancement of novel materials and newer technologies. These expectations help us work towards excellence by achieving our goals.

Today, our department is very skilled and meets the demands of external elements. We have highly qualified and experienced faculty members who have achieved academic success in training future technologists. We have state-of-the-art infrastructure with fully equipped laboratory consoles for each student, and the equipment required for training is current.

With the addition of a fully equipped CAD CAM technology teaching laboratory, the department has recognized the relevance of CAD CAM technology in dentistry at the end of the bachelor's program, which consists of four years of training and a one-year rotatory internship. The student is entirely competent in working in the dental market to improve the quality of life of his fellow students and thereby help in nation-building.

About the Head of the Department
colleges

Dr.Abdulkhaliq Alshadidi is a prosthodontist specializing in dental prosthetic replacements, including (partial and complete dentures, full mouth rehabilitation cases, aesthetic dental treatments, and dental implant prostheses). He graduated from the College of Dentistry, King Khalid University, in 2012. In 2013, He joined the Allied Dental Health Sciences Department at King Khalid University as a teaching assistant. In 2020, Dr. Alshadidi was certified by the Saudi Commotion of Health Specialists with the Saudi Board of Prosthodontics and classified as a prosthodontic consultant. Program Tree
Laboratories

Laboratory 1 – Crown and Bridge, Maxillo-facial Lab

Crowns and bridges are a fixed solution to missing or damaged teeth. These kinds of prostheses restore the smile to its natural state. Students are taught the anatomy and morphology of the anterior and posterior teeth, followed by procedures for making a wax pattern on specific dies on the cast. Die preparation and wax pattern fabrication are the primary skills trained, followed by spring and investing in wax patterns.

The burnout and casting of the wax pattern are done in a sophisticated burnout furnace and casting machine. Finishing and polishing of Metallic crowns and bridges are done after casting and making them suitable for fitting into the patient's mouth.

Maxillofacial prosthesis deals with replacing missing structures of the oral cavity and face. The students are given training on knowledge and skills about the anatomy of the facial parts like the nose, eyes, and ears, along with the art of carving out the given anatomy onto the clay—wax and duplicating in Acrylic and silicone.

Laboratory 2 – Removable partial denture lab

Removable prosthetic dentures help to restore the few missing teeth in the patient's arch. Students are taught the various RPD designs and methods to fabricate it starting from cast preparation, cast surveying, framework designing, investing the wax pattern leading to its burnout, and finally, casting the framework.

The finishing and polishing of the metallic framework are completed.

This framework is acrylic after teeth arrangement, wax-up, and carving. And polishing. Then it is delivered to the doctor for insertion.

Laboratory 3 – Complete denture Lab

A complete denture is a valuable prosthesis that helps to restore all the missing teeth in the patient's arch. Students are taught the basic and intermediate steps for the fabrication of complete dentures starting from the initial processing of cast pouring, custom tray construction with different materials, finishing and polishing of the trays, structure of baseplates, and occlusal rims. Later mounting is done on an articulator, and teeth arrangement is completed. After final try-in procedures, dewaxing and curing are done. The final product, after curing, is removed, and finishing and polishing are done for the same.

Laboratory 4 – Orthodontic and Dental morphology

Removable orthodontic appliances help support and retain the teeth in their new positions. Students have demonstrated the different components of the retainer-like the types of claps, springs, and Labial bow designs. The students also know the orthodontic expansion devices, multifunctional appliances, and soldering methods. The components are organized on the cast according to the requirement of the appliance, and they are acrylic to fabricate different kinds of removable Hawley’s retainer appliances.

Dental morphology teaches the students the anatomy and morphology of the anterior and posterior teeth. The students get the necessary information to identify the different teeth and also show their skill in carving out the morphology of the teeth with their proper form on a carving wax block.

Laboratory 5 – Porcelain Lab

In the porcelain lab, the student learns the art and science of Anterior and posterior crown fabrication for All ceramic, Porcelain fused to metal crown, and dental veneers types. The students also learn about understanding the different stages of porcelain application in different clinical scenarios. A complete ceramic crown is placed on the cast and evaluated for perfection in fit and aesthetics.

Laboratory 6 - CAD-CAM laboratory

The lab is used for training students to fabricate prostheses using digital dental technology. This high-end machine produces high-quality prostheses, from single crowns to long-span bridges. This system includes digital scanning, digital designing software, and a production system (milling machine). The dental 3D printing machine can 3D print Removable partial denture framework printing, Metal crowns printing, and acrylic prosthesis printing.
