
AI Smile
On Sunday, February 9, 2025, the College of Applied Medical Sciences, Kamis Mushait, along with the Student Club, the Deanship of Student Affairs, and the Department of Dental Health Sciences, hosted a program titled "AI Smile." This innovative event focused on the applications of artificial intelligence in dentistry and the use of CAD-CAM technologies in dental laboratories. The program aimed to enhance students' skills and knowledge regarding the latest advancements in this cutting-edge medical field.
The program began at 9:00 a.m. and featured a series of theoretical lectures presented by members of the department:
- Dr. Abdulmajid Akshah provided a comprehensive introduction to artificial intelligence, discussing its history and various applications in dentistry while emphasizing its importance in improving diagnostic and treatment accuracy.
- Dr. Fahad Al-Hamoudi discussed CAD-CAM technology, comparing its features with traditional methods in dental laboratories and explaining how it enhances quality and reduces errors.
- Dr. Rajesh outlined the materials used in CAD-CAM techniques, discussing their advantages and disadvantages, while also highlighting potential risks.
- Dr. Vishwanat addressed the role of artificial intelligence and CAM in designing fixed and removable restorations, explaining how these technologies improve treatment outcomes and enhance patient comfort.
- Dr. Syed Altaf talked about the use of artificial intelligence and CAM in orthodontics, illustrating how these technologies expedite processes and achieve precise, effective results.
Attendees included current department students as well as several students from other disciplines. Following the lectures, there was a food break from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. The program then resumed from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., with practical training sessions led by Dr. Abdulmajid Akshah. These sessions focused on artificial intelligence applications, including the design and 3D printing of dental restorations using the latest technological devices.
